Rush-Hour Mayhem: Trespasser Jailed After Causing Over 57 Hours of Train Disruptions at Clapham Junction

A trespasser responsible for disrupting rush-hour services at Clapham Junction has been sentenced to eight weeks in prison.

Anthony Andre, 42, illegally entered the tracks near the South London station around 18:30 BST on September 10, resulting in 38 trains experiencing delays or cancellations.

His reckless actions led to the electrification being shut down, affecting the power supply to trains in the Clapham area, and causing a total of 3,427 minutes of delays, equivalent to over 57 hours. Andre received his sentence at Wimbledon Magistrates’ Court on Tuesday.

“Anthony Andre is fortunate to be facing only a prison term, as the outcome could have been far more severe,” stated Paul Langley, the head of security, crime, and resilience at Network Rail.

Mr. Langley emphasized, “His reckless behavior not only endangered his own life but also created significant disruption for countless passengers.”

This trespass occurred during Tube strikes last month, exacerbating the inconvenience for many travelers.

“Trespassing on railway property is extremely hazardous,” Mr. Langley remarked. “The electric rail servicing trains in the South East operates at 750 volts, a voltage potent enough to be fatal or cause catastrophic injuries.”

Andre admitted to charges of trespassing and obstruction in a hearing on September 12.
