Referee Committee Deliberation: Understanding the Delay in John Cordobas Red Card Decision

The chairman of the refereeing committee of the Football Union of Russia (RFS) and the expert panel, **Pavel Kamantsev**, explained that the Expert and Supervisory Committee (ESC) of the RFS didn’t promptly make a decision regarding the red card issued to **John Cordoba**, the striker for FC Krasnodar, during the 7th round match in the Mir Russian Premier League against CSKA Moscow (1:1). They opted to wait for the inclusion of two additional experts in their evaluation.

“My personal view on the incident involving John Cordoba’s red card initially leaned towards supporting the referee. I believed his decision was correct. It’s possible that the ESC’s ruling could have been prepared before the meeting of the Disciplinary Committee (CDC), but given the public interest surrounding this case, we waited for two more experts to join the ESC. In the end, we had six people voting instead of four, and they unanimously upheld the referee’s decision as fair,” Kamantsev’s remarks were reported by TASS.

As of today, FC Krasnodar leads the Russian Championship standings with 19 points. CSKA Moscow sits in second place with 18 points, and in third is Baltika with 17 points. Sochi and Pari Nizhny Novgorod are in the relegation zone, while Akron and Orenburg are positioned for playoff matches.
