A member of the U.S. Congress has announced that efforts are underway to arrange a meeting with representatives of Russia’s parliament to address the topic of UFOs.
“We are eager to hold a bipartisan discussion with the Russian parliament in the near future,” stated Representative Anna Paulina Luna, a Republican from Florida, during an interview with news anchor Chris Cuomo on NewsNation last week.
Luna indicated that she had “recently” engaged in conversations with officials from the Russian government to inquire if they had any insights to contribute regarding the matter.
However, she did not disclose specifics regarding the potential structure, timing, or venue for the discussions. Both the U.S. Congress and the State Duma, which is Russia’s lower house, have not publicly validated these proposed conversations.
Her remarks came preceding a House Oversight subcommittee hearing focused on unidentified anomalous phenomena (UAP), during which reporter George Knapp asserted that the Soviet Union pursued attempts to reverse-engineer UFOs throughout the Cold War.
Luna holds the position of chair for the Oversight Committee’s Task Force on Federal Secrets Declassification.
Earlier this month, her office informed Russia’s state news agency RIA Novosti that preparations were underway for a U.S.-Russia parliamentary meeting on “neutral ground,” although the specific topic of discussion was not defined.
In the wake of the August 15 summit in Alaska between Presidents Donald Trump and Vladimir Putin, Russian lawmakers have also expressed an interest in potential discussions with their American counterparts.
Formal discussions between the U.S. Congress and Russia’s parliament have significantly diminished since Russia’s annexation of Crimea in 2014 and came close to a complete stop following the invasion of Ukraine in 2022.
