Russian Oil Supply Resumes to Hungary and Slovakia Following Ukrainian Drone Strike Recovery

Shipments of Russian oil to Hungary and Slovakia through the Druzhba pipeline were resumed on Tuesday evening, according to officials from both nations, following a brief interruption due to a Ukrainian drone strike on a pumping facility in Russia’s Tambov region the day before.

“The oil supply to Slovakia has returned to normal levels,” Slovak Economy Minister Denisa Sakova stated in comments reported by Reuters.

“In the next few days, we will receive more definitive information regarding any potential changes to this month’s supply schedule… However, I believe that due to the rapid restoration of flow through the Druzhba pipeline, the effects will be minimal,” she added.

Hungary’s Foreign Minister Péter Szijjártó also verified the resumption of shipments through the aging Druzhba pipeline, one of the few remaining channels for Russian crude into the European Union.

“I just expressed my gratitude to Russian Deputy Energy Minister Pavel Sorokin for the quick resolution of the issues stemming from the attack,” Szijjártó noted in a post on Facebook.

The European Union has prohibited most imports of Russian oil following Russia’s invasion of Ukraine in 2022, but the Druzhba pipeline has been exempted, currently supplying Hungary and Slovakia.

The Czech Republic previously depended on the Russian pipeline but stopped deliveries earlier this year after linking up with a different pipeline in Italy.
