Steven Torpey has been appointed as the director of the Manchester United academy, as reported on the club’s official website.

Torpey’s most recent position was at Brentford, where he oversaw the club’s youth development system. At Manchester United, he will be responsible for all aspects of the club’s young player development framework.

He holds a UEFA A coaching license and previously managed the coaching teams across all age groups at Manchester City, as well as having experience at Liverpool.

“I am incredibly proud to have the opportunity to lead the Manchester United academy. This is undoubtedly a fantastic time to join the club as it enters an exciting new phase. I look forward to playing my part in continuing the remarkable tradition of youth development here.

After my discussions with the management, it became clear that the academy will always be a central element of Manchester United’s identity, with our primary goal being to prepare players who are ready to support the first team and compete for the highest honors,” said Torpey.

He will begin his role at the club in the coming months, while the current academy head, Nick Cox, will remain in position to ensure a smooth transition before taking up the role of technical director at Everton.
