Six-time Grand Slam champion and the world’s second-ranked female tennis player, **Iga Swiatek**, reflected on her victory at the **2021 US Open**. In the final match, she defeated Tunisian player **Ons Jabeur** with a score of 6-2, 7-6 (7-5).
“I have very vivid memories of that tournament compared to others. Even when I think about my wins at Roland Garros, the beginning there was not as smooth; the first few matches were quite challenging. Before the final, I wasn’t particularly nervous because I could already feel fatigue setting in; all I wanted to do was focus on playing effectively.
In the final against Ons Jabeur, I knew the match would be physically demanding—she often employs slicing shots and drop shots, which requires a lot of movement. However, she is also consistent from the baseline. I’m delighted that I was able to win in straight sets because playing a third set would have been extremely exhausting. I’m not sure I could have managed that.
When I first won Roland Garros, I was already thinking about what would happen after match point; I felt in control of everything. But at the US Open, it was different; that feeling was absent. With the tiebreak, every single point counts. Until the match is over, it is not over. I just kept playing,” Swiatek stated in a video shared on the **Tecnifibre** YouTube channel.
