Prosecutor Labels Ex-Met Officer a ‘Manipulator’ in Shocking Rape Trial

A man charged with raping two women while he was an active Metropolitan Police officer is a “liar” who exists in his own reality, a prosecutor claimed during the trial.

In his remarks to the jury, Barrister James Thacker KC asserted that they should not trust anything stated by Jake Cummings.

Cummings, 26, residing on Lytton Way in Stevenage, denies the allegations, claiming that the encounters were consensual.

The defense attorney argued before the jury at St Albans Crown Court that they could not be certain that Cummings did not genuinely believe the women had consented.

Throughout the proceedings, it was revealed that Cummings, who has also lived in Hemel Hempstead, had past relationships with both alleged victims.

One woman testified that she was raped while involved with the defendant, while the other reported that the assault occurred shortly after their relationship had concluded.

Cummings informed investigators that neither woman had indicated a refusal.

The jury was advised that Cummings had previously been found guilty of controlling and coercive behavior, as well as stalking, in connection with his relationships with the women, following an earlier case.

“Jake Cummings occupies a world of his own, disconnected from reality,” Mr. Thacker explained when summarizing the prosecution’s arguments.

“How can you believe anything that a liar states?”

The answer, he continued, is that you simply cannot.

Mr. Thacker characterized Cummings as an “acknowledged manipulator.”

In contrast, defense attorney Campaspe Lloyd-Jacob contended that the jurors “cannot be certain” of her client’s guilt.

“The issue at hand is whether you can be convinced that Jake could not reasonably have believed that they were consenting,” she stated.
