A significant burst water main has led to “considerable flooding” in the southeastern part of London.
Southwark Council reported that they are collaborating with Thames Water and the Metropolitan Police at the location on Ilderton Road in Bermondsey.
A representative from the council mentioned that they have established a rest center to assist residents who have been displaced due to the flooding.
Thames Water announced that the damaged pipe is impacting service for customers across 12 postal areas. They indicated that their engineers are on-site, working to isolate the affected section of the pipe in need of repair.
“We understand that some properties have sadly experienced flooding,” stated a spokesperson for Thames Water.
“Our team is actively engaged in supporting the local community. For safety reasons, traffic management measures have been implemented while the repairs are in progress.
“Most customers should expect their water supply to be restored within the next hour or two. Initially, the pressure may be lower than usual, but it will gradually increase.”
