Londoner Races Through 42 Museums in 24 Hours to Claim Guinness World Record

A man has successfully navigated London on a kick scooter to claim a Guinness World Record for the highest number of museums visited in a single day.

Ben Melham, aged 42, zipped through 42 museums, including notable sites like the Barbican Art Gallery, the British Museum, the Science Museum, and the Natural History Museum.

His remarkable achievement took place on October 25 and has been officially recognized by the Guinness World Records team.

This new record surpasses the previous one held by Sujoy Kumar Mitra and Swaroop Dawrani, who visited 33 museums in Delhi, India.

Residing in Surrey but originally from London, Mr. Melham stated, “Museums play a vital role in helping us understand our identity and origins.”

“Through this record-breaking challenge, I aimed to promote awareness and encourage more people to engage with museums and the remarkable collections they protect.”

Looking ahead, he is now focusing on a long-term objective of setting the record for the most museums visited within a year.

Adam Millward, the managing editor at Guinness World Records, praised Mr. Melham’s museum tour, saying it “showcased the rich diversity of London’s cultural institutions.

“It serves as a reminder for both residents and visitors that there’s always something new to discover and learn about, though ideally at a more relaxed pace than what this record required from Ben.”
