West End Disruption: Just Stop Oil Activists Charged for Stage Protest During The Tempest Starring Sigourney Weaver

Two activists from Just Stop Oil face charges following a disruption during a West End performance of The Tempest, featuring Sigourney Weaver.

On Monday, demonstrators stormed the stage of the Drury Lane theatre, and footage shared online captured two individuals holding a banner proclaiming, “over 1.5 degrees is a global shipwreck.” Sigourney Weaver, who was seated on stage, was promptly escorted by a theatre staff member.

Richard Weir, aged 60 from Tynemouth, and Hayley Walsh, 42, from Radcliffe on Trent in Nottinghamshire, are being charged with aggravated trespass.

They are set to appear before Westminster Magistrates’ Court on February 25.

A video released by Just Stop Oil depicted the protesters facing a mix of jeers and a handful of applause from the audience before they were removed from the stage within a minute.

Weaver, known for her role in Alien, was actively performing alongside another actor when the interruption occurred.
