Headline: Major Track Renewal to Disrupt Croydon Tram Services for Nine Days: Essential Upgrades Underway

Passengers using the Croydon tram network should prepare for disruptions as Transport for London (TfL) initiates a significant track renewal operation.

From Saturday until 23 February, a portion of track located in south London, specifically between Wellesley Road and East Croydon, will undergo replacement.

This project is anticipated to lead to notable alterations in tram services within the town centre and East Croydon, as reported by the Local Democracy Reporting Service.

Navid Golshan from TfL emphasized that this scheduled maintenance is crucial for maintaining “a dependable service.” He also mentioned that additional necessary work will take place during this timeframe “to reduce the likelihood of future closures.”

During the construction, tram services on the remainder of the London Trams network will operate as usual, and roads will remain accessible to vehicles.

On 15 and 16 February, tram operations will be halted between Reeves Corner and Sandilands, which includes the town centre loop; services to Elmers End will also be suspended.

Replacement bus services will cater to the affected stops, but passengers should be prepared for potential delays.

For those traveling to Elmers End, the 289 bus will operate every 12 to 15 minutes, providing links to Addiscombe and West Croydon.

Alternatively, Birkbeck tram stop is a short distance away, or passengers can take the 356 bus from stop B.

Furthermore, from 16 to 23 February, tram services will be unavailable between Reeves Corner and East Croydon, impacting the town centre loop, and there will also be no service between Arena and Elmers End.

The 289 bus will assist passengers in reaching Elmers End, and additional bus routes, such as 64, 119, 130, 194, 198, 464, and 466, will continue to function, although they may experience increased passenger volumes.

Other ongoing works will include localized road repairs, drainage improvements, and platform enhancements at various tram stations.

Passengers seeking more information and updates should consult the details posted at local tram stops or visit the TfL website.
