Carnaby Street è una via pedonale dello shopping a Soho, nella città di Westminster, nel centro di Londra. Vicino a Oxford Street e Regent Street, è sede di negozi di moda, tra cui un gran numero di boutique indipendenti. La strada fu probabilmente allestita nel 1685 o nel 1686 con piccole case. Un mercato fu sviluppato negli anni venti del 19esimo secolo. Negli anni ’60, Carnaby Street divenne popolare tra i seguaci degli stili mod e hippie. Vari bar musicali underground aprirono nelle strade circostanti. Carnaby Street is a pedestrianised shopping street in Soho in the City of Westminster, Central London. Close to Oxford Street and Regent Street, it is home to fashion retailers, including a large number of independent fashion boutiques. The street was probably laid out in 1685 or 1686 with small houses. A market was developed in the 1820s. By the 1960s, Carnaby Street was popular with followers of the mod and hippie styles. Various underground music bars opened in the surrounding streets. Bands such as The Who, and The Rolling Stones appeared in the area and this area it became one of the coolest destinations associated with 1960’s Swinging London. This year Carnaby street will be bathed in pink neon light from a series of lightboxes running the length of the thoroughfare. Each box will have a positive word inside, to pay tribute to the strength, courage and kindness of Londoners during this difficult year.
