Russian airstrikes targeted central Ukraine overnight, resulting in one death and significant destruction, according to regional officials on Sunday.
The Dnipropetrovsk industrial area was struck by drones, artillery, and rocket launchers, leading to damage to buildings and electrical infrastructure.
In recent weeks, Russia has intensified its military actions, as the latest talks in Istanbul failed to yield a resolution to the ongoing three-year conflict.
“The invaders targeted the Synelnykivsky district with a guided aerial bomb, which claimed a life. We extend our heartfelt condolences to his family,” stated Mykola Lukashuk, head of the Dnipropetrovsk Council.
He also mentioned that five private homes and a kindergarten were among the structures that suffered damage.
In the Nikopol district, a business, four residential buildings, and power lines were impacted by the strikes.
Days prior, Russian attacks on Dnipropetrovsk focused on military training facilities, resulting in the deaths of 12 soldiers.
Moscow has ramped up its offensive in recent days, pledging to respond after a bold attack by Kyiv on Russian airbases.
Both parties accuse one another of obstructing a large-scale prisoner exchange—the only tangible result from the Istanbul negotiations.
This prisoner swap, originally scheduled for this weekend, would involve the release of over 1,000 individuals from each side.
However, on Saturday, Moscow alleged that Ukraine had failed to confirm a date for the exchange, while Kyiv accused Russia of engaging in “dirty tactics” by not adhering to the previously agreed terms.
