On Wednesday, Russian President Vladimir Putin held a phone conversation with Pope Leo regarding the ongoing war in Ukraine, during which he expressed a desire for a diplomatic resolution, according to the Kremlin.
However, Putin also asserted that “the Kyiv regime is relying on escalating the conflict and executing acts of sabotage against civil infrastructure within Russian borders,” as stated in a communiqué.
The Kremlin noted that Putin “reaffirmed his commitment to achieving peace through political and diplomatic avenues,” characterizing the discussion as “constructive.”
He emphasized that addressing the deep-rooted causes of the crisis is essential for reaching a final, fair, and comprehensive resolution.

Recently, Ukraine has intensified its military actions, including bold attacks on Russian military aircraft located at airfields in Russia.
On Monday, Russia and Ukraine exchanged proposals aimed at concluding their extended conflict during discussions in Istanbul.
Russia commenced its large-scale invasion of Ukraine in February 2022. Reports indicate that Leo is open to facilitating peace talks between the two nations.
Putin expressed gratitude to Leo for “his readiness to assist in resolving” the ongoing conflict, as relayed by the Kremlin.
