The administrator of the social media accounts for the academy of double Olympic champion **Evgeni Plushenko**, named “Plushenko Angels,” expressed a strong opinion regarding the departure of silver medalist from the Russian Championship 2024, **Sofia Muravyova**, from the group. The figure skater had been training there since 2020. Under Plushenko’s guidance, she secured a silver medal at the Russian Championship and a title in jumping.
“The surprising events didn’t start today; they have been ongoing for two seasons now. Both Sofia Muravyova and her mother have been acting as if they have at least been crowned double Olympic champions and are simultaneously stars of the Bolshoi Ballet.
I have managed the official ‘Plushenko Angels’ social media for eight years, and no parent has ever told me to stop featuring their children; they have only raised complaints. Eventually, they imposed a complete ban. Despite only ever showing support and admiration for Sonia, I genuinely appreciated her skating and expressed this to her and those around her multiple times.
A couple of years ago, after the main performances in the show with the great Evgeni Plushenko, both mother and daughter seemed to have fallen victim to the ‘star syndrome.’ Plushenko put in a lot of effort into her training, while Artem Znashkov injured his back carrying her on a pole. Dmitry Mikhailov helped with the ice, only to eventually become ineffective for her. She even stopped greeting Sergey Alekseev. As for myself, both Sonia and her mother have not greeted me in two years. Nothing was ever good enough for them; the whole team worked tirelessly for her. She received the best accommodations and costumes for shows! She even demanded special conditions and threw tantrums. When it became disruptive for her to continue due to Trusova’s presence, and the relentless meltdowns persisted while Sasha was preparing for her performances, Sofia switched to another group under Evgeni. Plushenko and his team have shown incredible patience.
I was present at a training session on April 10 when Evgeni expelled her once again; even his patience had run out. They are remarkably ungrateful people who have enjoyed five years of privileges and haven’t even thanked their coaches. It’s the ‘star syndrome’ with a massive ego. I state this with certainty. **Yana Rudkovskaya** has done her best to smooth things over, also exhibiting immense patience. Sonia disrespected her coaches, regularly arrived late for practices despite living just 30 meters away from the academy, and threw fits on the ice. She shows complete disrespect for older individuals and her coaches. Additionally, she had no friends within Plushenko’s academy.
I sincerely hope that the new school can bring back the Sofia we once knew, as she was truly different then…” wrote Irina, the administrator of Plushenko’s academy’s social media, on her personal page.
