FSB Uncovers and Dismantles Terrorist Network Linked to Poland in Nizhny Novgorod Region

On Monday, Russia’s Federal Security Service (FSB) announced the dismantling of a terrorist cell in the Nizhny Novgorod area, which was reportedly in coordination with handlers based in Poland.

Seven individuals linked to an unspecified “international terrorist organization prohibited in Russia” were arrested on suspicion of attempting to recruit members from the local Muslim community, according to information from the FSB’s press service cited by the Interfax news agency.

This group was described as advocating a radical ideology aimed at forcefully seizing power to establish what it calls a global caliphate.

State media released footage showing FSB agents conducting arrests in various locations, including vehicles, streets, and residential buildings. In one clip, an agent displayed a phone that featured a blurred number beginning with Ukraine’s international dialing code +380.

FSB officials reported the confiscation of “propaganda materials, communication devices, and electronic media utilized in support of terrorist endeavors.”

The two main suspects leading the terrorist cell are facing criminal charges, while other members are set to be deported to their countries of origin, as stated by the FSB, which did not disclose further information.

In a separate announcement earlier that same day, the FSB revealed the dismantling of a significant illegal arms manufacturing network. Authorities reported the closure of 62 clandestine weapons workshops and the apprehension of 172 individuals across 58 regions during March and April.
