Following a significant burst pipe in west London, thousands of residents are experiencing either low water pressure or complete loss of water supply due to flooding.

The flooding occurred around the Holland Park roundabout, where water levels reached up to 3 feet 2 inches (1 meter) deep at approximately 03:55 GMT on Wednesday. A team of forty firefighters responded to the incident, utilizing an inflatable rescue boat to assist in evacuating nearby homes.

Thames Water expressed its apologies, noting that customers in specific postcodes—W12, W6, W4, W14, W8, W11, and W1H—may be encountering low pressure or no water service.

Kris Seymour, a station commander with the London Fire Brigade (LFB), stated, “A major rupture in a 30-inch water main resulted in flooding that reached nearly 1 meter deep, impacting more than 50 homes as well as a hotel across a stretch of one mile.”

He went on to explain, “Firefighters employed specialized tools, including an inflatable rescue boat for evacuating affected residents, and deployed flood barriers to redirect the water, which has since receded.”

The LFB announced that by 05:23, the response was concluded for the firefighters, with displaced residents being accommodated in a nearby hotel.

It is estimated that nearly 2,000 properties are currently without water.

Thames Water acknowledges it loses approximately 24% of its water supply due to leaks.

A spokesperson for Thames Water stated: “Our engineers have successfully shut off the water supply to the affected pipe and are managing the situation as they prepare to make necessary repairs.

“We sincerely apologize to those who have been affected by flooding. Our customer support team is actively assisting residents, and we are committed to restoring normal services as soon as possible.

“In addition, we are providing bottled water delivery to properties registered with our priority services.”
