Tutberidze Emphasizes the Importance of Ultra-C in Preparing Petrosyan for the Olympics

The esteemed Russian figure skating coach, **Eteri Tutberidze**, discussed the preparation of skater **Adelia Petrosyan** for the upcoming 2026 Olympic Games.

“Certainly, Adelia Petrosyan is under significant emotional stress. We are still dealing with the aftermath of an injury that left us questioning whether she would be able to skate at all. Eventually, we received permission to resume skating, but for a while, we didn’t have stable triple jumps, which understandably created a sense of panic.

Right now, we need to urgently focus on improving the ultra-si jumps. Our axel, in particular, is quite elusive. It shows up for us at times, but not consistently. It was there during the short program at the Russian Championships, but in the free skate, while it did make an appearance, it drained all our remaining energy for the toe loops.

To be honest, we are currently contemplating the final content of her routine, which will depend on what appears to be more stable. However, participating in the Olympics without the ultra-si is simply not a viable option.

Starting out with the first warm-up, we won’t have a ranking, and there’s nothing distinctive about our performance that would set us apart, making it easy for the judges to assess us with lower component scores. The components are still evaluated relative to the warm-ups and rankings. After that, regardless of what we might execute, there aren’t any jumps that could bridge the gap between the leaders and us,” Tutberidze stated in an interview with Okko.
