Next month, a unique exhibition featuring a selection of historic posters from the London tramways network will be unveiled.
The London Archives will present 40 posters created between 1922 and 1933, which include official guides for tramways, photographs, and a map.
These posters highlight various heritage sites, such as the British Museum, recreational days at Hampstead Heath and Battersea Park, as well as opportunities for sports and shopping.
Originally, these posters were placed at the fronts of tramcars, at London County Council locations, and throughout the tram network.
The inaugural collection of posters was produced in black and white by the London County Council, in collaboration with the Central School of Arts and Crafts.
Due to their popularity, color posters were subsequently commissioned, featuring contributions from a range of designers.
The “London’s Tramways Posters” exhibition will run from February 10 to June 26 at The London Archives.
