Metropolitan Police Under Scrutiny: Watchdog Investigates Death of South London Man After Officers Respond to Assault Report

The Metropolitan Police has decided to self-refer to the police oversight body following the death of a man in South London, which occurred after officers responded to allegations of a child being assaulted.

According to the police, officers arrived at a residence on High Street, South Norwood, at approximately 01:27 on Sunday and discovered a 45-year-old man in the midst of a medical crisis.

The police stated that the man was “extremely agitated and actively resisting the officers.” After being subdued, he lost consciousness and was transported to the hospital, where he was pronounced dead shortly after 03:30.

The Independent Office for Police Conduct (IOPC) has begun an inquiry into the matter.
