The motorist involved in a collision with a school tea party that resulted in the tragic deaths of two eight-year-old girls has been granted bail as investigations continue.
Claire Freemantle, 48, was taken into custody again on Tuesday under suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving.
Her re-arrest came after the Metropolitan Police reassessed their inquiry following the Crown Prosecution Service’s (CPS) decision in June to refrain from filing charges against Ms. Freemantle.
She is scheduled to check in at a police station in late April.
The Metropolitan Police have called for witnesses to come forward, stating that a specialized crime review unit has “identified avenues of investigation that require further scrutiny.”
Detective Superintendent Basford emphasized, “Our foremost concern is to advance the inquiries highlighted by the review. I encourage individuals to refrain from speculation.”
The parents of the deceased girls have expressed their support for the reopening of the case, stating it should be conducted “in the pursuit of truth and comprehensive facts.”
Ms. Freemantle had previously conveyed her “deepest sorrow” and reported having “no memory of the events” that led to the deaths of Nuria Sajjad and Selena Lau in Wimbledon, south-west London, on July 6, 2023.
She was initially apprehended at the accident scene outside The Study Preparatory School.
After an investigation, the CPS concluded that Ms. Freemantle had experienced an epileptic seizure while driving, which caused her to lose control and crash into the school. Consequently, they decided not to press charges.
At that time, her attorney stated that Ms. Freemantle’s epilepsy had “never previously manifested” and that she had “always maintained good health.”
