Engineering activities will disrupt train services between London and Peterborough for the next two weekends.
Travelers are encouraged to prepare in advance, as services between London and Peterborough, as well as between Royston and Stevenage via Hertford North, will not be operating.
Track, drainage, and overhead line enhancements are scheduled for January 25-26 and February 1-2.
Simon Pumphrey, Network Rail’s infrastructure director, stated, “This work has been meticulously planned to optimize periods of track closure, enabling us to carry out multiple projects simultaneously and reduce the frequency of disruptions.”
During this period, Thameslink and Great Northern trains will not be running between London and Peterborough or between Royston and Stevenage via Hertford North.
Other train operators heading further north will provide limited services, including rail replacements via bus.
Pumphrey expressed regrets to affected passengers and thanked them for their understanding as improvements are made to enhance the railway’s reliability.
Preparatory activities will be carried out as part of the East Coast Digital Programme as well.
Jenny Saunders, customer service director at Govia Thameslink Railway, noted, “We have arranged for replacement buses, shuttle train services between Royston and King’s Lynn, and ticket acceptance on alternative routes to facilitate your travel.”
The engineering work entails renewing the line north of Stevenage and investing in bridge timbers south of Finsbury Park.
At Welwyn Garden City, renovations will be conducted on the switch and crossing apparatus, while drainage work will be performed on the tunnel at Hadley Wood.
Additionally, enhancements will take place on the overhead line systems at Biggleswade and Bounds Green, with under-track cables being installed between Biggleswade and Peterborough.
