The Georgetown Chamber of Commerce and Industry (GCCI) is actively working to enhance its global partnerships, with a recent emphasis on revitalizing a longstanding connection with the London Chamber of Commerce and Industry (LCCI). The goal is to strengthen trade and investment relations between Guyana and the United Kingdom.
The history between these two chambers can be traced back to 1996 when they signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to promote bilateral trade. To reignite this agreement, a delegation from GCCI met with LCCI’s Head of International, Marta Kozlowska, and other senior officials. The LCCI represents over 9,000 members, including micro, small, and medium-sized enterprises, making it one of the UK’s premier business networks. During the meeting, Timothy Tucker updated LCCI officials on GCCI’s growth and development over the years while advocating for closer collaboration to create business opportunities for both organizations.
As a result of their discussions, GCCI secured discounted membership subscriptions for its members to join LCCI. This move enhances opportunities for Guyanese businesses looking to expand their presence in London. Additionally, both chambers agreed to facilitate their members’ participation in seminars and events hosted in Guyana and London.
During their visit to London Chamber representatives presented copies of Business Guyana Magazine and Green Magazine as a way of showcasing potential ongoing developments in Guyana’s business landscape.The GCCI plays an essential role as Guyana’s leading Business Support Organisation under the Georgetown Chamber of Commerce industry Act Chapter 89:03.It has nearly 1 thousand members ranging from micro organizations up towards larger enterprises. It is managed by 21 counsellors supported by fourteen committees that drive its mandate.
Over time,GCCI has become instrumental through various key initiatives such as advocating local content laws,promoting stable business environment,distribution multi disciplinary management training via government sector employees which then further promotes sustainable economic growth through trading creating opportunities within Giana.
