The Millennium Bridge, formally often called the London Millennium Footbridge, is a metal suspension bridge for pedestrians crossing the River Thames in London, linking Bankside with the Metropolis of London. It’s situated between Southwark Bridge and Blackfriars Railway Bridge. It’s owned and maintained by Bridge Home Estates, a charitable belief overseen by the Metropolis of London Company. Building started in 1998, and it initially opened in June 2000.
Londoners nicknamed the bridge the "Wobbly Bridge" after pedestrians skilled an alarming swaying movement. The bridge was closed in a while opening day and, after two days of restricted entry, for nearly two years whereas modifications have been made to get rid of the movement. It reopened in February 2002.
The southern finish of the bridge is close to the Globe Theatre, the Bankside Gallery, and Tate Fashionable, whereas the northern finish of the bridge is subsequent to the Metropolis of London College beneath St Paul’s Cathedral. The bridge alignment is such {that a} clear view (i.e. a "terminating vista") of St Paul’s south façade is offered from throughout the river, framed by the bridge helps.
