At a ceremony on Wednesday morning the Dean of Southwark, the Very Revd Dr Mark Oakley, blessed the mizzen mast and along with the winner of a kids's artwork competitors positioned two cash beneath it – a halfpenny that includes the Golden Hinde and a 50p piece marking the 2 hundredth anniversary of the RNLI (donated by The Royal Mint). It is a long-established nautical custom which is claimed to deliver good luck.
