Ukraine launched a multitude of drones targeting various locations throughout Russia during the night, with reports from media and sources connected to Ukraine indicating that an oil refinery in the southern Samara region was among the impacted sites.
According to Russia’s Defense Ministry, its air defense systems shot down 118 Ukrainian drones, including 18 over the Samara region. Additional drones were reportedly intercepted over the Belgorod and Kursk regions, which are adjacent to Ukraine.
In response, aviation authorities imposed temporary flight restrictions at six airports across Russia, including Samara’s Kurumoch Airport.
Telegram news outlets and Petro Andryushchenko, a former official from the now-occupied Mariupol, reported that the Novokuibyshevsk refinery operated by Rosneft was struck in the drone assault in Samara.
Residents in the vicinity reportedly heard several loud blasts near the facility, which has an annual production capacity of up to 8.8 million metric tons and is regarded by Ukraine as a significant source of fuel for Russian military operations.
The Moscow Times has not been able to independently confirm these claims.
Vyacheslav Fedorishchev, the Governor of the Samara region, has not yet addressed the alleged drone strikes.
