Millennium Bridge

The Millennium Bridge, formally referred to as the London Millennium Footbridge, is a metal suspension bridge for pedestrians crossing the River Thames in London, England, linking Bankside with the Metropolis. It’s situated between Southwark Bridge (downstream) and Blackfriars Railway Bridge (upstream). The bridge is owned and maintained by the Bridge Home Estates, a charitable belief overseen by the Metropolis of London Company. Development of the bridge started in 1998, with the opening on 10 June 2000.

Londoners nicknamed the bridge the "Wobbly Bridge" after contributors in a charity stroll on behalf of Save the Kids to open the bridge felt an sudden, and, for some, uncomfortable, swaying movement on the primary two days after the bridge opened. The bridge was closed later that day, and after two days of restricted entry the bridge was closed for nearly two years whereas modifications had been made to get rid of the wobble completely. It was reopened in 2002.

The southern finish of the bridge is close to Globe Theatre, the Bankside Gallery and Tate Fashionable, the north finish subsequent to the Metropolis of London Faculty beneath St Paul’s Cathedral.
